Where We Are

The Azores Archipelago North Atlantic Faial
The Azores are an Autonomous Region of Portugal. They lie in the Atlantic about 1,500 km west of Continental Portugal and the nearest place on the American side is Newfoundland, about 2,100 km away. They are on the same latitude as Lisbon and Washington DC. Summers are usually calm with a lot of sunshine, but it never gets oppressively hot. In winter we are hit by occasional fierce Atlantic storms, but frost and snow are unknown except on the mountain tops.
The archipelago consists of nine islands divided into three groups. Our island, Faial is the westernmost island of the Central Group. They are sometimes further divided into The Central Triangle of Faial, Pico and São Jorge. The capital is Ponta Delgada on the island of São Miguel and international flights fly into Ponta Delgada, Lajes on the island of Terceira and occasionally to Pico.
Casa Figueira is located near the northern point of the island in Cascalho in the rural parish of Cedros. It is about 22 km from the city of Horta and the same distance from the airport. It is 300 metres from a small supermarket, restaurant and bar and 2 km from a bakery and pharmacy. There are a number of other restaurants within a 10 km radius.
